Robocup- Soccer between Man and Machine

Living in the era of technology, the greatest desire of science and technology is to cross all the limits of nature and most of all, outcross human ability. Robotics, the technology of artificial intelligence is not out of it. So a lot of robotics competitions are held world wise to encourage in making robots.

Robocup is one of them which work to fulfill a goal in upcoming future. Though it seems a lot of strange to hear such a goal and hard to implement, Robocup has got a lot of impression among robot lovers.

Robocup is founded in 1993 with a form of robotics competition. The main purpose of this competition is to develop soccer robots which are autonomous in order to improve it with research as well as education in artificial intelligence. The full name of Robocup is “Robot Soccer World Cup”. But “Search and Rescue” as well as robot dancing is also included in robot competition. The main goal of this project is to win over the world cup champion of soccer at 2050 by some soccer players who are nothing but autonomous humanoid robots, considering all rules of FIFA.

Robocup competition has four different categories along with some major leagues. Standard platform was formerly known as standard platform league played by unique robots. It is included in Robocup Soccer along with Small Size league, Simulation league and Middle Size league. Robocup rescue has two league; rescue simulation league and real rescue league. Though there are some categories in the games, the main objective remains same. These competitions are international and all sorts of person can join in.
 
Robocup junior is also a Robocup competition which is arranged for school students (under 18). This competition helps undergraduate students to make robots which can take challenges in particular tasks. Robocup junior includes three different competitions such as soccer, rescue and dance. Dancing competition’s purpose to perform dance by robot according to music and skill is judged on creativity and costume.

In soccer, two robots in each team play soccer autonomously. Rescue competition is based on retrieving an object through some obstacles in route and bringing it back safely and most quickly.

Robocup is not only a competition around the world of artificial intelligence but also a goal to mankind to achieve something which is unimaginable even today. This type of robotic competition helps to gain greater than wining.
