Robotics Competitions in Schools- Around the World

Robots are the upcoming field of development in the world of technology.

People have a certain interest in robotics and it is increasing potentially. To make the new generation more curious and passionate about robots, several competitions have been held in different countries around the globe.

These competitions have made a wonderful effect on school kids as they have become more skilled and efficient in robot making which was hard to imagine about some years ago. Some of these competitions are described in this article in order to have a clear view.

BEST robotics (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) is one of the most renowned robotic competitions in USA.

It is held in falls in every year. It helps the school students in improving their career in robot industries.

For Recognition and Inspiration of Technology and Science was established by Dean Kamen. The era of this organization starts since 1992. FIRST is famous because of its leading competition which is held in every year. It promotes a varsity like competition among high schools that helps young people a lot in the field of science and robot technology. FIRST allows outside people who pass their knowledge to the young high school students. They are called mentors. FIRST gives scholarships based on different satisfactory performance.

Botball is another robotics competition high and middle school students. It is organized by Institute for Practical Robotics, KISS. Botball mainly encourages constructive robot design including basic communication, design, problem solving and programming skills. Each team designs and builds at least one robot (up to four) that can autonomously move objects into desired position.

International Robot Olympiad is a robot game which is for children (age 9-17).

The groups are splinted as standard category and the creative category. The standard category includes robot building from scratch and solving a problem in 2-3 hours (max). Creative category is mainly project based. It includes designing, research and reports- showing individuals talent.  The people in the committee are very responsible and experts who come from various fields such as universities and other sectors related to robotics. These experts give new direction and inspiration to the robot fan kids.

Robotics competitions are very much hard to arrange but the feedback does worth it. School competitions are much needed to promote worldwide because it is the only way to grow interest in making a robot.

That’s why school competitions are encouraged by robot industries.
